There are 3 Beaver Colonies: Ages 6-8Willow Beavers: Wednesday 17:15 – 18:30 (Livsey Scout Hall)Lisvane Beavers: Wednesday 17:30 – 18:30 (Lisvane Scout Hall)Cottonwood Beavers: Thursday 17:45 – 18:45 (Livsey Scout Hall) In 1986 the Beavers became an official section of the Scout Movement. Boys and girls aged six and over can become Beavers in either Wednesday Colony or Thursday Colony. After attending for a few weeks Beavers are invested during a short ceremony, where they are asked to make their promise: “I promise to do my best,To be kind and helpfuland to love God and the world.“ During this ceremony, which parents are invited to attend, the Beaver is presented with a welcome certificate and the Group red and black neckerchief. They will also be presented with badges that they will wear throughout their Scouting journey in Llanishen & Lisvane Scout Group. These include the World Badge, which is worn by all Scouts in the world, the Welsh dragons, Area, District and Group badges. The Beaver Motto is “Fun and Friends”. We provide an exciting opportunity for the Beavers to make new friends, develop new skills, learn to respect others and the world around them. These activities are undertaken individually or in groups. We are fortunate to have a large field adjacent to the hall which we use for activities whenever possible. . Visits away from the Scout Hall have been to a fire station, police station, road safety centre, Western Mail printing works and Pets at Home. Visits to look at our natural environment have been to the local woodlands for pond dipping and other activities, accompanied by the park ranger. Visitor have come along to our meetings so Beavers could complete their badges. These have included a community police officer, St. Johns Ambulance, dentist, nurse and Tai chi instructor. There are numerous other activities we have tried include: cooking, painting, junk modelling, tying knots and food tasting. We have had fun at sleepovers at the Scout Hall and the Summer Group Camp. Hopefully this information has given you a brief insight into what the Beaver Colony has to offer and will encourage you to start your adventure in the Scout movement.
